| October 4th-10th is National Fire Prevention Week! Your Leonardtown Volunteer Fire Department has been busy connecting with daycares, schools, students, and teachers to bring fire safety awareness through hands-on visits.
Students were able to meet firefighters both in and out of their equipment, learning all about fire safety, smoke alarms, and family safety plans. Along with our hands-on visits, we were thrilled to provide engaging, fun materials for the students and practical safety resources for educators to keep the learning going long after we left. And of course, everyone got a chance to climb on the firetruck! Thank you to all for hosting our engine and members, and for partnering with us to help teach the next generation.
Why this matters to our community: Giving children up-close time with firefighters—especially seeing us in our full gear—helps them understand that the person behind the mask is a trusted friend who is there to help. This early, hands-on education is so important because it ensures that if an emergency ever happens, our children won't be afraid. Instead, they will recognize us, stay calm, and know what to do.
Stay safe, Leonardtown! |
